Special needs dog in Sarasota

Mattel is one of the special dogs. He is about 1-1/2 years old. He is an amazing American Bulldog mix and he is deaf. At six months old his owner gave him to a relative who did nothing more then let Mattel live in the backyard. The thing is, he doesn't know he is deaf and tries to please everyone he comes in contact with.
No one really spent much time with him. There were kids in his family but Mattel was living outside. He would get bored and get himself in trouble by digging or being destructive to things in the yard. His owner didn't feel they could train him so they brought this wonderful fellow to us. We are very glad to have him here.
We are fortunate at our shelter to understand what a deaf dog needs. Our K-9 coaches have already started to work with Mattel. He is learning sit and down with the use of hand signals. Mattel will need his adopter to be willing to work and guide him through the training process. He is a very smart boy and we know he has what it takes to learn all of the commands just like any dog who is able to hear. We would like to recommend that you visit this website for more information regarding hearing impaired dogs.
Mattel would love to meet you so please stop in and ask to meet the big guy. We are located at 2331 15th Street in Sarasota. Questions: Call us at 955-4131 and we will be happy to answer them. Check out Mattel and all his friends here. We know that Mattel would love to be in your Home 4 the Holidays!!!

I'd love to learn more about the training of deaf dogs to see if it's a story I could pitch to my editor.
