Thank you Sarasota from SDA
The community spoke loud and clear ! The SDA yard sale, to help raise money to begin a "on-going " medical fund was a HUGE SUCCESS. Hundreds of Sarasota residents came and donated their time and their goods. Gourmet baked items were being dropped off all day long. We made well over $2000, doubling last years yard sale.
Over 20 volunteers worked extremely hard to set up this massive endeavor, with items covering a large parking lot as far as the eyes could see !
Sarasota in Defense of Animals is a 22 year old group of hands on local animal advocates that has dedicated the past 18 years helping the stray & homeless animals of Sarasota County Animal Services, because we believe these abandoned animals are OUR animals in OUR own back yards, and they need EVERY Sarasota resident to be a voice, and have some kind of role in saving every adoptable animal.
Sarasota residents came in large numbers, bought great items, ate wonderful baked goods, and got to meet several of the dogs and cats up for adoption in our very over crowded Sarasota County shelter . ( Sadly, many never knew we even HAD a county shelter). The residents of Sarasota joined with the staff , the volunteers and SDA team, in our goal to help save every adoptable Sarasota animal, regardless if it has a broken bone, mange, or heart worm.
CAUTION: Although the yard sale was a success, if just a couple of stray dogs & cats arrive with broken bones or heart worm, those few animals in need will WIPE THIS FUND OUT. This money will cover just a few animals......it is only a start.
Volunteers are needed to step up, be creative and take on a more active role in becoming part of the solution. Bake sales, car washes, golf tournaments, motorcycle poker runs, you name, the future ill or injured strays of Sarasota need us, and we need leaders in the Sarasota community to help us help all adoptable animals.
On behalf of SDA, we thank everyone involved in our 2nd annual yard sale. There is much work to be done. I look forward to working with you on our next venture.
