Don't get above your raising

One of the fascinating aspects I have noticed in animal welfare is the disparity of common goals among shelters and rescues.
One of the reasons is because each rescue decides themselves what parameters they are going to follow in the job at hand.
Although saving animals is always at the top of the list, many decisions are made simply due to the personality of the person who is doing the rescuing. I found it interesting because with the announcement of the possible closure of a rescue in the area, many of the local groups I heard speak about it were very quick to write off any help because of the person running the rescue.
Okay, so you don't like where he is located, or you think he is a drunk. Maybe the woman wears ugly dresses, or they are not your brand of responsible. Does this make the lives of the animals any less valuable? Are we as a community so willing to allow an animal to be euthanized simply because we don't like someone's personality?
Now, I am not saying I have all the answers, but I think we all need to decide who, exactly, we are in animal welfare for. Are we in it for the animals, or for the glorification of what we perceive our personal mission with animals is?
I have a friend who has a saying which is, "There are two types of people in the world. Those who do good and those who are the do-gooders." There is a difference. Let us all work towards the goal of people who do good and not let all our personalities get in the way of our mission to save the animals.
