Falling in love with a photo

I have posted numerous photos and descriptions of animals from all over the state in the last several weeks. Most of these dogs are scheduled for euthanasia. Rescuers post and cross post in hopes to save at least a few of the animals we send around. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Lucky was a dog posted on the blog several weeks ago in Lake County. Lake County is above Orlando and they are always overcrowded with throwaway dogs whom no one seems to want. Lucky has a deformed foot and in many cases, a person will see the photo of a dog like Lucky, feel sorry for the dog and rush out to adopt before they investigate what some of the dog's issues may be. Then in a couple of weeks the dog is returned to the shelter and once again, faces certain death.

In Lucky's case, she was returned to the shelter, not because she was a bad dog, but was simply a dog with a few issues. One of those issues is digging and one is chewing. Normal you say? Well, you are quite right. These are pretty normal issues for young dogs but many adopters are not prepared to handle them because they mean the dog may not be perfect in their eyes.

So Lucky has been in two different homes and keeps coming back because someone felt sorry for her because of her deformed foot, but not enough to work on the real issue of digging underneath a fence and escaping.

Lucky is only about 10-12 mo old, spayed female, and utd on everything, and hw neg...she does have a deformed leg but it does not bother her. Her down fall is that she is very hyper, she will chew thru a leash in a heartbeat, and she is a digger, and she is very good at it, amazing watching a 3 legged dog dig, but she does and she is fast, so she needs someone with the time to try her and correct these issues, once she is loose she is a runner. She thinks it is a game.

If you or someone you know could give Lucky a home and help work on these issues, please contact ASAP: DENISE AT williams.denise022@gmail.com OR 352-636-3740.

For anyone who feels sorry for an animal with a disability, like her deformed foot, I welcome you to visit my sweetheart, Eileen, a 3 legged dog, available for adoption at Satchel's...she runs faster than 90% of the four legged dogs there...or to try to keep up with my Cliffie, in his wheelchair when he hits the beach!
