We wonder why?
Cruelty comes in all shapes and sizes. It can range from the teenagers killing a chicken and recording it, to the man who was sentenced to 6 years in prison for shooting two horses and include the cruelty charges filed on the Sarasota man with sick and starving pit bulls. These are some of the headlines in today's paper. Sickening, isn't it?
So when we see starved and neglected pets, it doesn't shock us any longer. It should. It should cause all of us to ask for more. We need better laws to combat the mindset they are just dogs, or cats, sheep, or cattle. They are living, breathing things and should not be cruelly treated no matter what.
Unfortunately, you cannot legislate morality. That has to come from other sources and must begin with education. We must continue to educate our community on animals and hope they get the picture. It can't hurt.
