Microchip event
Suncoast Humane Society and Charlotte County Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department are again partnering to offer a pet micro-chipping event, Saturday morning, June 27, at Tringali Recreation Center in Englewood.
Micro-chipping is an important measure to be taken to better assure the safe return of your pet in time of displacement. A microchip is a tiny computer chip implanted between the animal’s shoulder blades. Your name, address and contact information is encoded in the chip. If your pet is brought to an animal care facility or a veterinary clinic, the staff will be able to scan the animal and gather the information stored on this chip and contact you immediately. It is a safe and simple procedure that only takes a few minutes and is relatively painless for your pet.
The event will be held from 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon, and will be offered at a reduced cost of $20.00 per pet. All proceeds will benefit the animals at Suncoast Humane Society. Micro-chipping will be supervised by the Society’s veterinarian, Dr. Randy Hitesman. Proof of current rabies vaccination is required in order to have your pet chipped. All dogs must be on leash and cats in a carrier.
Phil Snyder, Executive Director of Suncoast Humane Society states, “Micro-chipping brings you one step closer to having your pet prepared for a disaster. It will give you piece of mind that your pet will carry permanent identification. Even without a disaster your pet may become lost and the microchip may be the cheapest insurance you can buy.”
