Standing on the soapbox

I watch a lot of detective shows. Some, like "48 Hours" on A&E, are real, some aren't. I find them interesting now because of one fact. The use of DNA to find criminals years after the fact. Many criminals have been charged for crimes that 20 years ago, seemed unsolvable.
On the other hand, DNA can clear a suspected criminal and they can be released from jail.
The availability of DNA for dogs has come a long way in the last couple of years. Many people send off their dog's swab simply to satisfy their curiosity of the breed of their particular mutt. I think this is a great idea.
Dogs are mislabled every day in this country. Many times this results in a death sentence for the dog, simply because of the way the dog looks. The breed most often identified incorrectly is the pit bull. Looks can be deceiving. Ask anyone who has a mutt.
Every dog of medium or large size who comes in the shelter and is black with gold or tan markings is a rottweiler mix. Every dog who comes in the shelter with a big head and short stocky body is a pit mix. Any hairy, little dog is a shih tzu and any small, short hair dog is a chihuahua or min pin mix.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to test for DNA for shelter dogs so we would know what the dominant breed is? We could stop the senseless killing of many animals who have been incorrectly labeled. We would have proof to show our insurance companies that our dog is acceptable. (although this does not deter me from owning any breed of dog. You guys know how I feel about insurance companies)
Are there any animal loving, rich people out there who like this idea? You can start with one shelter and move up. What a concept; actually knowing your dog and not caring. You could be surprised.
Affordable DNA testing for dogs. Just think how many lives could be saved.
