Meatball finds her spaghetti

Sometimes, when you meet new animals coming into the shelter, you connect with them before you even get to know their personality. Meatball was one of those dogs for me.
She came in with her housemate, a small black lab mix named Ebony, and she was so full of life and kisses you simply had to love her.
They were both covered in fleas and were pretty itchy, but seemed in great health otherwise. They had been adopted from our shelter originally, so were returned to us when their owner could no longer care for them.
I knew Ebony would find a home quickly. She was small and a lab mix and only 6 years old, but Meatball was another story. She was 9 and listed as a pit bull mix, although I believe she had more of something else, just not sure what.
I figured she would sit in her kennel for several weeks or months due to her age and her listed breed, but was I in for a huge surprise.
On Monday, which was my day off, a young woman came in with her father to meet Meatball. She loved her, but left to go home to think about it. She had also visited a local pet store to look at the puppies there.
On Tuesday, I was introduced to the young woman and her father who wanted to meet Meatball again. Y'all know the place seniors have in my heart and when I saw the reaction the dog and the young woman had to each other, I knew Meatball had found a home. She was adopted on Tuesday and the shelter received a note from the young woman about Meatball's first two days in her new home.
If young people like this young woman are soon to be in charge of this country, I have all the confidence in the world things will turn out okay. This is the note we received from this exceptional young lady.

"Hello,
I just wanted to send you an update on Meatball. She is doing absolutely WONDERFUL!!! She is loving life in her new home and has made many new friends. She loves her bed and going on walks around the neighborhood. She is very energetic and loves to play with her new toys (Which are also all pink, like her collar) and she loves to play with the hose and in water. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to have this wonderful girl in our home. Even though she's older she is just like a puppy in her personality. I hope other people realize that older doesn't always mean they won't be as energetic and fun, because this older girl always keeps us moving! Thanks again for everything you guys do,

Kaitlyn"

Thank you Kaitlyn, for being a very mature young lady and seeing the beauty in a senior dog and giving her a second chance for a new, wonderful life.
