Does it bother you?

Does it bother you the puppies your dog had are probably not going to make it out of the shelter alive? You could have had your female spayed to prevent the puppies. You could have gotten a certificate to have it done low cost or no cost, but chose not to. Instead they end up in an overcrowed shelter with no new family in sight.

Does it bother you the dog you had its' whole life, who you turned into a shelter because it wouldn't play anymore, or was too old, or had arthritis, or didn't like the new puppy will not make it out of the shelter alive?

Does it bother you because the puppy you bought and turned out to be not quite what you wanted, or required just a little too much effort on your part will not make it out of the shelter alive?

Of course it doesn't. It doesn't bother you because it is simply not your problem anymore. You have made it someone else's problem. You have made it the problem that animal control agencies, and humane societies and rescue groups are having to deal with right now.

They are full, all of them, bursting at the seams with dogs and cats, puppies and kittens that no one wants. No one wants the responsibility or the committment for the huge number of animals which are being dumped, that's right, dumped because it doesn't seem to bother people.

When the economy is bad, what exactly do you think happens to some of these animals? Is it easier to simply bury your head in the sand and pretend they are all living wonderful lives in whatever facility they have been taken to? They have no family, no one to love them, no one to cuddle with them or give them the kind of life they deserve.

The really sad part of this whole scenario is they just keep coming. There is not a slowdown or a stoppage. The amazing thing to me is the number of people who say, "Well, you won't euthanize him/her will you?" Where are these unwanted animals supposed to go when there is no room left at the inn?

All of these questions are arising with greater frequency the longer the economy stays stagnant. I have no answers. I wish I did because although it may not bother you, it bothers me.
