Nicholas, a 10 year old, 23 lbs Spaniel mix needs to be rescued from OCAS (Orlando, FL)

PLEASE SHARE WITH OTHERS!
Meet Nicholas, who is a 10 year old, 23 pound, heartworm negative spaniel mix on low time down at OCAS.
If his eyes look a bit *strange*, there is a reason. Nicholas appears to have nuclear sclerosis which is common in older dogs. It's a bluish haze over a dog's eyes, sometimes confused for cataracts. Sometimes it can ultimately cause blindness, but more times than not, it doesn't.
My golden girl Gracie, who now romps at the Rainbow Bridge, was diagnosed with this shortly after I adopted her. In Gracie's case, she also had retinal dysplasia, and she did lose her sight.
Now this is the part I hope you will read carefully:
DOGS ADAPT BEAUTIFULLY TO IMPAIRED VISION OR EVEN LOSS OF SIGHT.
We, as humans, may consider loss of sight as a handicap. Dogs don't...they don't have the emotional hang-ups we as humans do. There are so many of us *dog folks* who have had or currently have dogs with limited or no vision.......they do just fine! There are multiple websites and support groups we can hook you up with where you can gain more understanding....and we'll support you in any way we can.
In closing, please don't feel sorry for Nicholas. Rather, feel sorry for the folks who won't consider him because of his less-than-stellar vision. You are missing out on a sweet old guy who, like our sweet Mary Lou, just would like a warm and safe place to spend their golden years.
Nicholas is at Orange County Animal Services in Orlando. His Animal ID is A221090 and he is in Room Number WDI15 (Isolation Kennels). If you or your rescue group can save Nicholas, please either go down to OCAS or contact Pam at BHS74FlyGirl@aol.com ASAP. As always, time is of the essence.
PLEASE crosspost and share.......Nicholas and I thank you!
