Don't buy pet store puppies

According to this article, more puppies are sold during the holiday season than at any other time of the year. The ASPCA and other humane groups are urging people to not adopt from pet stores, since the majority of their dogs come from puppy mills. They also don't want you to purchase anything from pet stores which sell puppies.
Of course, the pet stores are saying the animal people are zealots. Although they are on the list the ASPCA publishes, they maintain if they sold defective dogs or did not follow the law, they would go out of business.
