Following the leash laws
I find it interesting how some people in my neighborhood only follow the leash law when it is convenient for them to do so but will actually confront others who have their dog off lead.
I have a neighbor who has a couple of dogs. When they are outside or walking down our street, their dogs act like hooligans, racing through neighbor's yards, rushing up to you as you are getting our of your car, using the bathroom in other yards and general creating havoc. Nothing we have said to this particular neighbor has any inpact on his habits.
When he walks his dogs off our street, they are leashed, which is a good thing.
My temporary house guest went to take Buzz for a walk several days ago while I was at work. While she was walking Buzz past the park, they came by a man who had his Doberman off leash. At the same time, my neighbor had his dogs walking by. He began yelling at the Doberman's owner about leash laws etc.
This particular neighbor is frightened of larger dogs, which may have been why he reacted so strongly to the Doberman's owner, but I find it interesting he would yell at someone else, for doing what he does every single day on our street.
Buzz, of course, just kept walking and sniffing, very unconcerned about what anyone else was doing.
So, this is a gentle reminder: We have leash laws in Sarasota County. Please follow them.
