Halloween and black cats

I don't own any cats. I like big, fluffy, orange ones, but due to allergies with fluffy cats, I can't have one. Buzz is also like a lot of dogs who were not raised with cats and he would not tolerate having one in the house.
My sister has cats and dogs. She has three black ones and says she prefers black cats because they are more affectionate. Ghost, who is her eldest, acts like a dog. He comes when called, is very affectionate and actually listens to commands.
Marketing for Halloween always uses images of black cats with arching backs in advertising and many people associate black cats with evil and witches.
The chance for cruelty to occur on this holiday continues year after year and to try and prevent this, many shelters will not adopt out black cats or kittens several weeks before and/or several weeks after this spooky holiday.
Check out this story from England. Cruelty seems to cross the Atlantic Ocean and they have the same problem with black cats we do in the United States. I guess cruelty knows no boundaries.
