Unsung heroes
Take a small sanctuary in Missouri, a humane society in Florida, a humane society in Georgia and a group of volunteers, in the air and on the ground and put them together and what do you get?
You get 6 rescued animals who have now found new homes instead of no life left.
Here is the story:
When the kennel manager of the HSSC retired, he moved to Missouri to be centrally located to his kids. He and his wife began a small sanctuary for animals. When his sanctuary became overburdened, he called for help.
The HSSC had some room but transporting animals from Missouri to Florida was going to take some coordination. The volunteers and staff went into action and contacted Pilots N Paws, which is a group of private pilots who fly animals all over the country where there is room for them.
The plan was started and the animals took off. The pilots hit bad weather in the panhandle and had to land in Georgia. What to do with the animals until the weather cleared? Bainbridge Humane Society was contacted and they agreed to shelter the animals.
Two days later, the 3 puppies from Missouri arrived with 3 more puppies from Bainbridge, whose shelter is overburdened with puppies.
This weekend all 6 of the puppies found homes in Sarasota. 6 more animals were saved from certain death due to a lot of hard work from a lot of dedicated people. These are the unsung heroes. To them I say, thank you.
