Orlando Animal Control Senior pet specials

Adopt A Senior Pet Month, a nationally-celebrated event held each November, kicked off at Orange County Animal Services today. Building on the success of last year’s event, the Division is showcasing several new adoption promotions for the month.
“Last year, our efforts at promoting senior pet adoptions resulted in us saving 98 percent of healthy, adoptable seniors during November,” said Katherine Lockett, Division Manager. “We hope this new campaign brings even greater success and more saved lives this year.” This year, multiple adoption promotions make it easy to say “yes” to a senior pet: Seniors for Seniors – FREE adoption of a senior pets aged 6 and up for citizens aged 55 and up!Free Blood Panel Testing – To ensure senior pet adopters have thorough knowledge of their new pet’s health, they will receive a complimentary complete blood diagnostic test to bring to their first vet visit!Senior Cat Mentor Program – Double the love…when you adopt a senior cat, a companion feline of any age is free!Rescue Waivers – All registered rescues may pull senior pets for free during November, which gets them into foster homes and out of the shelter! In addition, volunteers will provide “Senior Pet Spa Session” certificates for shelter visitors. The certificate outlines several things senior pets love, encourages visitors to interact with senior pets, and gives senior pets some special TLC time with caring citizens in the community. “Senior pets make exceptional additions to any family, but they are especially good fits for folks that enjoy a more laid-back pace,” said Lockett. “Whether taking leisurely walks, snuggling on the couch or just enjoying each other’s companionship, senior pets bring a unique kind of joy into people’s lives.” Each adoption includes spay/neuter, initial vaccinations, microchip identification, deworming, heartworm test (dogs) or FLV/FIV test (cats), rabies vaccination, 5-lb. bag of Science Diet food and Adoption Welcome Kit.
