Life is good
Pekoe is the shelter cat at the DV shelter I work for. He was apparently picked up as a feral and altered along with his shots etc. in one of the many programs which operates in Manatee and Sarasota County.
There have been numerous articles written about the psychology of therapy pets. You can do a search on any internet search engine and read about the value of pets and the interaction they have with victims of abuse or the sick or elderly. I myself, believe my mother's pending death was hastened due to the death of her little rescued dog, Jordan.
So when we adopted Pekoe at our shelter, we knew he would have a calming influence on the residents, many who are coming to us from very volitile situations.
Pekoe now has any number of residents, adults and children alike, paying attention to him. He is well fed, has medical care and comes and goes as he pleases.
This photo was taken while he was taking a nap on top of my desk in the office. He does like to nap in between chasing things and has become very protective of this shelter, even running off other cats from our enclosed building. So never doubt all ferals are not true ones, despite what the clipped ear may say to you. Life is good for Pekoe.
