Animal Shelter Expects Long Line Of People Wanting To Adopt Loyal Dog

This headline really irritates me. Not the headline itself, but the inference that this dog is special because it is loyal. Now adopters are lining up at the shelter.

Can I say this again? Dogs are loyal. All dogs are loyal. They do not know how to be anything else. So why are people lining up for this particular dog? There are thousands of dogs, just like this one, languishing in shelters all over the country just waiting on a hope. If they are lucky, they will find one. If they are unlucky, they will be killed to make room for newer dogs who are just as loyal.

My hope is they will not be the typical, jump-on-the-bandwagon people and if they are waiting to adopt this one, they will choose another one when this one finds a home. The same holds true for this story about the pups abandoned in the suitcase. According to the story, hundreds of people are lining up all over the country to adopt these pups.

After all, if you adopt from a shelter or rescue you save two lives. The animal you adopt and the one who will take their place. Unfortunately, there is always one to take the spot.
