Satchel's Last Resort
I talk about the rescue I volunteer with quite often. When you are associated with one of the best organizations ever, you tend to speak highly of them and the people who keep it running, owners, staff, and volunteers alike. (no, I didn't get paid for that statement)
Satchel's Last Resort is located in Sarasota, Florida and we are exactly what our name says, a last resort. Many of the animals which come through the door will become sanctuary dogs and will live the rest of their lives at Satchel's, surrounded by people who love and care about them and in no danger of losing their lives because they have been deemed, "unadoptable."
Others, like my Betty, had an issue. Her's was a crippled leg. Satchel's paid for the surgery on her leg and the surgery didn't take. The vet said the damage, which happened long before we knew her, was too extensive and the scar tissue was too old. She faced certain death at another shelter because of the expense of having her leg treated. This is when Satchel's stepped in to help. We do that with many of the dogs who are guests in our facility.
Last, but certainly not least, are our regular dogs. Regular dogs, which came to us for the same reasons they show up at other shelters; no one wanted them any longer. They were moving. They were allergic. They got a new puppy and no longer wanted the old dog. The list of excuses never changes. We have young dogs and old dogs, many who just couldn't get a break in another shelter and Satchel's was there to give them a second chance.
Our animals come from owner's, but more often are pulled from other shelters or animal control agencies in our area. My project dog, Sandler, was taken because his previous shelter claimed he was not controllable. I find that pretty funny, considering I work with him every week and the longer I do, the more I realize just how smart he is.
Because it is the Christmas season and we face the same problems many other rescue organizations do, this is my plea to you, my readers. We welcome anything you can give us. We are not picky or demanding. We understand the value of donors and what they bring to our organization.
In preparation for the donations which are going to flow into to this wonderful spot, please accept my thanks and the thanks of the 65 dogs who are now sleeping in kennels because they had no where else to go.
